May is National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to giving biking a try.
With National Bike Month come several cycling-focused events:
National Bike Challenge – 5/1 – 9/30
Log your miles, earn points, and win prizes! Sign up here. Sponsored by 3M, LAB, and Love to Ride.
National Bike to Work Week – Monday, 5/14 – Friday, 5/18
You don’t need a car to get to work…do you??? Try it for a week and experience the 3 E’s of cycling to work: exercise, economy, and ecology!
Ride of Silence – Wednesday, 5/16
This annual ride (truly ridden in silence) honors those killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Meet at the McLean County Museum of History in Downtown Bloomington [map it], 6:45pm, and ride silently as a group to Uptown Normal [map it].
National Bike to Work Day – Friday, 5/18
Bike BloNo wants to buy your breakfast! On your way to work, stop by the Atwood Wayside on Constitution Trail (near Jefferson St, Bloomington) [map it] or Uptown Normal’s Circle [map it] and you’ll be treated to FREE coffee, donuts, and fruit!
